  1. Astronomically Sun is a star but astrologically Sun is a planet. The main reason for presuming Sun as a planet instead of a star is that astronomy is sun-centric whereas astrology is earth-centric. In fact, all the astrological calculations are carried out with respect to earth as the center. The revolutionary path of Earth moving around Sun is presumed to be path of Sun which is known as ecliptic.
